It is rare to find a photography studio that has withstood the test of time and remains in business after many, many decades. Fred Marcus Studio is one of the rare exceptions. Founded the studio in 1941 upon immigration from Germany to the USA, Fred Marcus Studio would become a landmark in this industry. After almost seven decades in business, Fred’s son and grandson now run the studio in New York City, photographing portraits and weddings for New York families and celebrities.
I had the opportunity to meet and break bread with Andy and his son Brian a few years ago at a dinner put on by Leather Craftsmen at WPPI. I’m not sure you can put more fun into a family business – after hanging out with these two it’s quite clear how close they are, and how much fun they have working together!
I have to admit I was a bit nervous when asked to photograph these two for my 100 Portraits Project. Since WPPI was just around the corner we found a spot in our schedules and managed to meet up for a super quick shoot. Vegas is not known for great natural light in their hotels, so we found a spot in front of the spa to take a few headshots of Andy and Brian.
Check out their work on their blog and website. They recently photographed Ivanka Trump’s wedding so you may have seen the gorgeous bridal picture they took of her on the cover of the March issue of PPA magazine!
Love the moodiness of this first one…

…which never lasts long with these guys because they’re always cracking up.

A few individual shots… first Andy…

Of all the pictures though, this is my favorite of the two of them.

Thank you Andy & Brian for the honor of taking your portraits and for being part of this project!
