The thing I love the MOST about shooting lifestyle portrait sessions is capturing the un-glamorous, REAL-life, tantrum-throwing, crying, rock-star dancing moments.
The moments where they forget about the camera and are immersed in what they are doing is the staple for what we do – sometimes it’s a picture full of joy and smiling and playing but more often than not kids are going to do what kids are going to do (and it’s not always all smiles!)
Depending on the day, the time of day, the little one’s mood and level of tiredness… sessions can go in many different directions. It’s rare to get a formal everyone-looking-and-smiling picture of a family with young kids. Nearly impossible sometimes. It’s very COMMON however to get tears, boogies, stank-face, fits, falls, and general camera-aversion or camera-awareness.
I honestly have no idea if parents thinks it’s as cute as I do when I capture one of these REAL moments, or if they’re thinking “why on earth is she taking pics of this??” or “that’s a horrible picture because they’re not smiling!”
Since kitty-meowsers are the closest thing we have to kids right now I think back to the times I captured the REAL moments and know these are some of my favorite pics still. Like their faces when they get to wear Halloween costumes, or the precious moments when Charlie was obsessed with Sarah Barlow, or Grace when she was bad daredevil kitten and got stuck in the ceiling and then needed her first bath!
Here’s a few REAL moments from the session I posted Thursday. This is one of my favorites – so sweet.
What happened minutes earlier to provoke this response. She must be thinking “but that’s my toy.”

I’ll let the rest speak for themselves…

Thank you to the families who let me capture REAL life for them! It’s always a fun adventure!
